What is Black Friday?
Traditionally celebrated in the U.S, Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving, and is regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Now celebrated worldwide, we will be bringing you fantastic offers over the course of the Black Friday weekend.
Why is it called Black Friday?
In 1966, Earl Apfelbaum (German for apple tree) used this term to describe the first Friday after Thanksgiving and the chaos it caused for the Philadelphia Police Department by thousands of busy shoppers. Today however, black is the colour traditionally used by accountants to signify a profit from the end-of-day figures, whereas red states a loss. This translates Black Friday into a profitable day for retailers and for the economy.
